Identity Cards Unit
Responsible for the issuance of electronic Identity Cards to Maltese citizens and the registration of eID (virtual) accounts.
Passport Office
Responsible for the issuance of Maltese passports to Maltese citizens.
Public Registry
Responsible for the documentation of Civil Status Acts such as Birth, Adoption Registration, Marriage, Civil Union, Cohabitation, and Death. The Office records Acts of Civil Status and annotations issued in response to a Court decree, and it issues copies of certificates.
Searches Unit
Responsible for the enrolment of testamentary wills, searches, and notes for transfer, inter vivos, and causa mortis of immovable property, as well as registration of hypothec and privilege notes for obligations such as loans and ground-rent payments.
Central Visa Unit
Responsible for the implementation of National Visa policies, providing Visa support to Maltese Missions, handling local Visa extension of stays, and processing of long-stay Visas.
Expatriates Unit
Responsible for the processing and issuance of residence documentation, implementing national legislation for EU nationals' freedom of movement and third-country nationals' residence documentation.
